One of LA’s best Gospel Choir’s comes the the Sturges Center for the FIne Arts. 


Some of the the greatest goplel songs will be performed in an evening that will inspire and uplift.  The show will feature an array of music including songs from the motion picture “THE COLOR PURPLE.


CJ Emmons Chris (CJ) Emmons, a native Houstonian has created a buzz that exhilarates excitement and creates full usage of his musical talent! This talented vocalist/songwriter/actor/ hold no boundaries when it comes to delivering great music and more! CJ started on his musical journey at the age of 3 when his mother entered him in his first talent show. And by the time he was 5 CJ had won over 18, 1st place trophies! He received his vocal training by singing in the church choir. And from that you can hear a mixture of many styles and influences from classical to jazz, to R&B and Funk in his smooth and soulful performances! He is a recipient of the Sammy Davis, Jr. Awards for Best Performer of the Year. While in Houston, CJ also served as opening acts for artist such as "Patti Labelle” Brian McKnight” “Vivian Green” as well as "Talent show America” (KHOU-CBS),”Houston’s Live stock show and Rodeo” and many other events. From this, CJ then moved to L.A. and toured with many local bands., He also served as an opening act for many major artists. He opened for Stevie Wonder while singing with the band Elixer at BB Kings Blues Club at Universal Studios City Walk. Along with standing ovation performance’s CJ then began to garner a buzz, as having one of the most sought after voices in L.A! He then opened at the House of Blues Sunset where he really cut lose, displaying the 5 octave range he is known for. Shortly after that he met the TV Producer and scriptwriter, Emmy Award winner, Mike Ajakwe Jr, who asked if he could perform a song in his show. Little did CJ know that the song was from the LADY herself Patti Labelle. CJ gave a show stopping performance singing “Lady Marmalade”and “Love Bankrupt” in the hit stage play” Body Language”. He was reviewed four times, with one editor Carl E. Betts from the “Pasadena Journal Entertainment” stating, “Houston Texas born Christopher Emmons delivered a crowd killer performance in his solo. I can't spoil this surprise; seeing his energy and hearing his vocal abilities is just something you gotta experience!!! CJ also tried out for the Fox hit show “American Idol” he didn’t make the show with the producers stating,” that he was too good and too polished”. But television networks such as Entertainment Tonight, as well as the TV Guide Network were there, and did a feature cover story on him. They described him as the next up and coming talent! He appeared on Tom Joyner’s TV show, On (ABC) and performed Backup for Yolanda Adams, The Ojays, and BeBe Winans at the 2006 Espy awards. He can also be seen the Film “Dream Girls” as a featured extra. CJ was a series regular on the Hit NBC show “The Singing Bee.” ,where he has performed with Barry Manilow, Taylor Dane, Debbie Harry, Little Richard and Toni Basil. He also just wrapped up a stint with performer John Mayer, at New York City’s “Village Underground“. He was also seen on CBS "Cold Case" Episode entitled "Soul". To add to his credits, this talented young man is also an actor, while in High School he performed in over 30 professional and none professional plays. He won best actor in a Texas State competition in 1999 and also won again in 2000. He portrayed Smokey Robinson in "The Motown Revue" at Houston's famous Wortham Theatre, "Black Nativity", "Christmas in Harlem", at the Ensemble Theatre in Houston, “The Fifth Sun,” “Smokey Joes Café,”(Off Broadway) “Dream Girls”, “If you don’t Believe”, with Tatyana Ali and Deneice Williams and many other musical and plays in L.A. His delivery is always strong and powerful-and his performances are full of excitement, energy and always heart felt!
