The Gin Game

Text

Can two lonely old strangers find love over a gin game? It’s visitor’s Day at the Bentley Nursing Home for the Aged. But there’s no one calling on Weller Martin and there’s no one sending flowers to Fonsia Dorsey. Through a simple game of gin, these two special people make a final play to win friendship and dignity. The play was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1978 and was nominated for four Tony Awards: Best Play, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Director. Jessica Tandy won for her portrayal of Fonsia.
